Warehouse illuminated by LED high bay lighting

Old lights cost your business money every hour they run. If you own a shop, workshop, office or warehouse, Ontario LED lighting rebates may help reduce the cost of upgrading — while more efficient lighting can reduce your ongoing electricity expenses.

How much could you save? In the example below, replacing 20 older lights reduces estimated electricity costs by $1,350 per year, or $6,750 over five years. Certain eligible LED high bay fixtures also have published incentives of up to $80 per fixture.

Actual savings depend on your existing lights, replacement fixtures, operating hours, electricity charges and program eligibility. Here is how to work out what an upgrade could mean for your business.

Ontario LED Lighting Rebates: Save on the Purchase and the Running Cost

There are two separate ways an eligible LED lighting upgrade can help your budget:

  • Lower upfront equipment cost: qualifying lighting products may receive an incentive through the Save on Energy Instant Discounts Program.
  • Lower electricity use: replacing higher-power lighting with suitable, lower-power LED fixtures can reduce the electricity used during every operating hour.

A discount helps when you buy. Reduced electricity use can continue helping after installation. The best starting point is a quote that identifies the right fixtures for your space and confirms which incentives, if any, apply.

How Much Can LED Lighting Save? Compare 10, 20 and 50 Lights

Consider a hypothetical upgrade from a 250W existing lighting system to a suitable 100W LED fixture. That is a reduction of 150W per light, or 60% less lighting electricity in this example.

The following calculation assumes the lights operate for 3,000 hours per year, approximately 10 hours a day for 300 days, and that the avoidable electricity usage cost is $0.15 per kWh.

Lights Replaced Annual Electricity Reduction Annual Cost Reduction 5-Year Cost Reduction
10 4,500 kWh $675 $3,375
20 9,000 kWh $1,350 $6,750
50 22,500 kWh $3,375 $16,875

These are calculation examples, not guaranteed savings. Five-year totals assume unchanged power, operating hours and electricity cost. They exclude equipment, installation, maintenance, taxes and financing. A 60% reduction in lighting electricity does not mean a 60% reduction in your entire electricity bill. Replacement fixtures must provide appropriate lighting for the space.

The longer your lights operate, the more operating hours there are to save electricity. Use your actual schedule and equipment specifications to estimate your own opportunity.

How Do Ontario Commercial Lighting Rebates Work?

For many standard lighting upgrades, the relevant Save on Energy offering is the Instant Discounts Program. Qualifying purchases through participating distributors receive an upfront price reduction.

The published incentive schedule includes selected high bay fixtures with discounts reaching $80 per unit. The amount available depends on the exact product, applicable specifications and distributor.

Before ordering, confirm the model and available discount. Buying an LED fixture does not automatically make the purchase eligible.

What Could a High Bay Lighting Rebate Save Upfront?

Published high bay incentive tiers include maximum amounts of $40, $50, $60 and $80 per qualifying fixture, depending on the applicable specifications.

Here is a separate purchase-discount example:

20 eligible fixtures × a confirmed $50 discount = $1,000 off the fixture purchase cost.

This is an arithmetic illustration, not a product offer. It does not mean that the 100W fixtures used in the electricity-savings example qualify for a $50 incentive. Eligibility and the actual discount must be confirmed for your order.

Ask for a quote showing the fixture price and confirmed incentive, then include installation costs when comparing the total investment.

Who Qualifies for LED Lighting Rebates in Ontario?

The Instant Discounts Program covers qualifying lighting upgrades in existing Ontario commercial, industrial, agricultural, institutional and multi-unit residential facilities.

If you are replacing less-efficient lighting in a shop, warehouse, workshop or other business space, it is worth checking your project. Ordinary single-family home purchases are outside these building categories.

Program conditions include purchasing through a participating distributor, meeting the required customer contribution, avoiding duplicate Save on Energy incentives for the same products and installing eligible equipment within 90 days of purchase. Confirm the current requirements before ordering.

Choosing LED Lighting for Your Shop, Office or Warehouse

Warehouse LED High Bay Lighting

For a warehouse or workshop, start with your ceiling height, shelving layout and the areas where people work. Storage aisles, packing stations and open floor space may need different light distribution.

More wattage is not automatically a better result. The goal is enough useful light where you need it, with suitable mounting and electrical compatibility.

Browse Mr. Lighting’s LED high bay fixtures, then request help comparing suitable options and checking potential incentive eligibility.

LED Lighting for Small Shops and Offices

Think about where customers look and where employees work. Product displays, checkout counters and desks should have comfortable, useful lighting.

Tell us whether your current lights feel too dim, too yellow or too harsh. If you have a suspended ceiling, note the existing fixture size and mounting arrangement.

Explore our LED panel lighting collection as a starting point. Eligibility must be checked for the exact model; not every product in a category qualifies.

LED Tubes, Linear Fixtures and Controls

The official incentive list also includes qualifying linear fixtures, certain LED tubes and selected lighting controls.

For older fluorescent lighting, compare replacing the lamps with replacing the complete fixture. The better choice depends on the condition of the equipment, compatibility, installation work and the result you want.

Have your installer confirm any ballast, wiring, dimmer or sensor requirements before buying.

How to Estimate Your LED Lighting Savings

You need three pieces of information:

  1. The total power used by your existing lighting.
  2. The total power of suitable replacement fixtures.
  3. The number of hours your lights operate each year.

For older equipment, use total system input power where available, including ballast power, rather than relying only on the lamp label.

Annual electricity reduction = power reduction in kW × annual operating hours.

For our 20-light example:

  • Existing lighting: 20 × 250W = 5,000W.
  • Replacement lighting: 20 × 100W = 2,000W.
  • Power reduction: 3,000W, or 3 kW.
  • Annual electricity reduction: 3 kW × 3,000 hours = 9,000 kWh.
  • At an illustrative $0.15 per kWh: $1,350 in annual electricity cost reduction.

The $0.15 figure is not an Ontario rate quotation. Use the applicable usage-related charges from your own bill. Fixed charges and demand charges may behave differently.

How Long Could It Take for an LED Upgrade to Pay for Itself?

A simple payback estimate compares your net installed cost with your estimated annual savings.

Simple payback = net installed cost ÷ estimated annual savings.

For illustration, if a project costs $4,000 after any confirmed incentive and saves $1,350 per year in electricity, the simple payback is approximately 3 years.

This is a hypothetical example, not a quote. Actual payback depends on equipment prices, installation work, operating hours and electricity costs. This calculation excludes changes in maintenance costs, taxes and financing.

Requesting a project quote gives you real equipment pricing to use instead of assumptions.

What to Prepare Before Requesting a Lighting Quote

Start with the information you already know:

  • Your business location: where the lights will be installed.
  • Your space: shop, office, workshop, warehouse or another existing facility.
  • Your fixture quantity: approximately how many lights you want to replace.
  • Your existing lights: the type or model number, if available.
  • Your operating schedule: approximately how many hours the lights run each day.
  • Your goal: lower electricity costs, better visibility, replacement of failing fixtures or a combination.

If you have photos of your existing fixtures or their labels, have them ready for the follow-up conversation. Missing some details? Complete the form with what you know so we can discuss the next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ontario LED Lighting Rebates

Can I buy the lights directly as a business owner?

Yes, you can contact Mr. Lighting directly to discuss products and request a quote. You do not need an electrician to make the initial inquiry. Have an appropriately qualified installer assess the installation and any electrical changes required.

Does every LED high bay qualify for an $80 rebate?

No. That is the highest published tier for certain qualifying high bays. Other models may receive a smaller discount or none. Confirm the exact model and available incentive before budgeting.

Do I need to purchase a large number of lights?

The official Instant Discounts FAQ sets no minimum purchase quantity per invoice. Other eligibility conditions still apply.

Does the Instant Discounts lighting offer cover new construction?

This lighting offer is for replacing less-efficient lighting in existing facilities. The official FAQ excludes newly constructed facilities from this offer.

Should I replace fluorescent tubes or the complete fixture?

That depends on the condition of your existing equipment and the work required. A lamp replacement may suit some spaces, while a complete fixture replacement lets you reconsider light distribution, mounting and controls. Compare the total installed cost and expected result.

Will new lights work with my existing sensors or dimmers?

Compatibility needs to be checked. Share the control model and proposed fixture model before purchasing. A dimmable LED fixture does not necessarily work with every dimmer.

Will filling out the form automatically apply a rebate?

No. The form requests product guidance, an eligibility review and pricing from Mr. Lighting. Wait for confirmation of your available discount and purchasing terms before placing an order. Submitting the form does not automatically change online checkout prices.
